The safe way for your dangerous goods

Transporting your cargo as responsibly as possible under the strictest IATA safety requirements: whether you need to ship vehicles, explosive or flammable materials, gases or magnetized materials, we ensure compliance with all the regulations.

Product-appropriate transport for all Dangerous Goods

  • Transport in line with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation, safety and legal requirements as well as internal safety standards.
  • Transporting all Dangerous Goods Classes 1 - 9, as PAX OK and Cargo Aircraft Only (CAO).
  • Own freighter fleet for transporting CAO shipments to more than 50 destinations worldwide.
  • Optimized, digitalized processes thanks to electronic Dangerous Goods Declaration (eDGD).
  • Also available for the transportation of Dangerous Goods with additional requirements such as temperature control or extra security.
  • Physical and document checks, including checks against the air waybill (AWB).

For when it's not just Dangerous Goods*

  • Dangerous Goods that are temperature sensitive, whether in active containers or passive packaging, or Dangerous Goods that are valuable can also be transported by Lufthansa Cargo.
  • In case your shipment needs something extra, you can send your shipment with enhanced capacity access and higher priority by using the Speed td.Flash**, or td.Zoom*** for best capacity access, top priority and premium service.
  • Or in cases of very high urgency, Dangerous Goods can also be booked as Product Emergency.

  • 24/7 eBooking of DGR makes the process faster and easier without the need for prior requests or contacting sales support.****

 

eDGD - electronic Dangerous Goods Declaration

  • For quicker processing and fewer errors, simply use the IATA standard eDGD.
  • Please contact your Lufthansa Cargo sales office to find out whether you can use eDGD with Lufthansa Cargo.

Lufthansa Cargo Operator Variations

Please take note of the Lufthansa Cargo Operator Variations concerning the transportation of Dangerous Goods. They can be found in the latest edition of the Dangerous Goods Regulations as published by IATA. 

 

DGR Repair Service

  • Save time, effort and money: DGR Repair can directly remedy minor defects such as missing or inaccurate labels in the DGD at our Frankfurt and Munich hubs.
  • In this way, delays in transportation can mostly be avoided despite the re-checks required by authorities.

*  Please note that not all Lufthansa Cargo stations worldwide are able to offer all the below-mentioned possibilities. For further details, see the “Infrastructure” tab.

** Only available for shipments with maximum 10 pieces and up to 3 UN-numbers. Due to the characteristics of Dangerous Goods, it may also be necessary to suspend the capacity guarantee in individual cases, for example if limits on volume apply or if other rules prohibit the transport on a certain flight.

*** Some Dangerous Goods’ commodities are not combinable with td.Zoom (e.g., Class 1 commodities) or underlie certain restrictions.

**** Some Dangerous Goods commodities cannot be booked electronically due to regulations and restrictions. Please contact your local Lufthansa Cargo sales office for support.

Safety first

  • Handling and storage always according to IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations at all stations where the Product Dangerous Goods is available.

  • Special safety procedures on the ground, handling with radiation protection and separate from non-compatible substances.

  • Book DGR now easily via eBooking 24/7. Some exceptions apply – For those, please submit a booking request via eService or contact the Lufthansa Cargo Service Center.

  • 24/7 eTracking via website and mobile app with optional proactive notifications.

 
Important information on dry ice

  • Provided it is correctly declared, packing dry ice is generally permissible in Dangerous Goods shipments.
  • However, re-icing of Dangerous Goods shipments cannot be provided, not   even in the event of irregularities or if a temperature (range) had been stated  on an AWB for a Dangerous Goods shipment.
  • If a shipment requires re-icing or has other special requirements, please choose a relevant Product or Add-on Service, which covers such needs. Please see the other Product pages on this website for more details or ask your Lufthansa Cargo Sales contact in case of questions.
