The chemistry is right.

Valuable goods are transported worldwide on behalf of the chemical industry. This requires a lot of know-how from logistics specialists – in the airfreight business too, as growth in this market is rapid. The lid fits perfectly on the new coffee mug. All components in the new smartphone are firmly in place.

Chemicals are the binding element in many aspects of our everyday lives. Between 2008 and 2012 the global market of the chemical industry grew at a rate of 8.7 percent to 3.8 trillion dollars. A study conducted by the consulting firm Deloitte forecasts an annual growth of 8.4 percent by the year 2017. The industry is expanding, particularly at locations in South America, in the Middle East and in Africa. But also in the Asia-Pacific region, which still leads the way in this market.

The chemical industry poses challenges for logistics specialists: the production facilities today are scattered across all continents. New, specialized products are only manufactured at a few locations and shipped from there to destinations worldwide. Because of the high value of the goods and the speed of transportation required, airfreight is becoming increasingly important.

The durability is often limited, yet another reason why the chemical industry relies on goods being transported quickly.  A flammable chemical has to be shipped from the USA to Nigeria? Inert gases for plasma monitors need to be moved very quickly from Europe to China?

Paints, fertilizers or sulfur compounds – Lufthansa Cargo transports chemicals all over the world. The airline has exactly the right solutions for the various requirements of the chemical industry. The main advantages for the customers: the extensive and highfrequency network, decades of experience with dangerous goods, comprehensively trained employees and proven processes.

With Care/td, Lufthansa Cargo offers a special service for dangerous goods that must be transported in strict compliance with IATA’s Dangerous Goods Regulations. Goods from all dangerous goods categories can be transported. In addition to the product for standard freight td.Pro, the service is also combinable with the express service td.Flash.

Whenever particularly urgent shipments are involved that are not dangerous goods, td.Flash is the optimal solution: the shipments are still accepted 90 minutes before departure, and the cargo is already available again two hours after landing. In the case of express freight, the capacity on the aircraft is always guaranteed. For emergency transportation Lufthansa Cargo offers a further special service: Emergency.Solutions enables a response even at the last minute. Customers are given access to transport capacities worldwide and at extremely short notice on the fastest airport-to-airport connections.

There is no weight limit in this solution up to the aircraft’s maximum cargo capacity. An express solution that provides valuable services for customers from the chemical industry is also available for personally supervised transports: with Courier.Solutions, airfreight has the highest priority – on the ground too. The reloading of the goods is carried out directly on the apron from aircraft to aircraft. The cargo is permanently monitored.

In addition to these various express products, the standard service td.Pro is also a good choice for customers from the chemical industry. The shipment can be seamlessly tracked on its way to the delivery destination. For this standard service, Lufthansa Cargo also utilizes capacities from cooperation partners.
