New cars to Cuba.
Competition for Cuba’s much-photographed classic cars! LH8332 lifted off from Frankfurt for Havana in May, carrying ten brand new Audi Q2s for exclusive test drives on the island. This was Lufthansa's first charter flight to the Caribbean island.
This interesting assignment fell to Lufthansa Cargo's team in charge of the “Network-on-demand” charter product. Working together with colleagues on the ground in Cuba, the flight was organised within three weeks.
Charlie November finally lifted off at 4:45 a.m. on Monday, 16 May, and landed eleven hours later, safe and sound, at Havana's international airport (HAV). 40 journalists are now getting the chance to spend five days test-driving the new model against a spectacularly picturesque backdrop on Cuba.
A summary of the action: the cars were already brought to the Lufthansa Cargo Center on the Friday before departure. After a security check on the vehicles, there followed the documentary and physical acceptance. Under the supervision of the assigned forwarder, the cars were then palletised and loaded punctually on to an MD-11F after a short wait.
“Precise planning as well as solid, efficient processes are essential to smooth handling”, confirmed Hans-Peter Justus, Senior Manager Service Concepts in Handling Frankfurt. Likewise, “the flexibility which our handling team provides every day.” He hopes the drivers of the cars in the Caribbean will have great fun driving them. “And we’re hoping to see even more flying cars.”
