What do the pharmaceuticals, automotive, oil & gas, art, farming and chemicals industries all have in common? They all need fast and reliable transport. And individual air transport solutions play a major role in all of these industries time and again.
Only airfreight can guarantee that urgently required medication can be provided worldwide, that oil drilling cores can swiftly reach the other side of the earth for inspection – or that the Picasso that was exhibited in New York the day before can be put on display in Europe the next day.
The current edition of planet throws a spotlight on six industries for which air cargo is essential.
The needs of these industries differ as widely as the products themselves: cold or warm, gigantic or microscopically small – no two consignments are alike. You will be amazed at the many possibilities air cargo has to offer.
The first Boeing 777 freighter already started operating at Lufthansa Cargo in November 2013 – this was the first visible sign of our future programme “Lufthansa Cargo 2020”. Three further B777F have now been added, a cooperation with the Japanese airline ANA will be launched in a few days’ time and we are working on turning our logistics centre in Frankfurt into the most modern and efficient of its kind. In view of this we visited a very special kind of warehouse for this edition of planet: Read how computerised processes boost speed and efficiency in a fully automated warehouse at the UNICEF hub in Copenhagen. The UNICEF logistics pros always have their eye on one goal: to provide aid faster.
Of course, this issue of planet is also available online as a magazine app and for tablets in the app store – featuring the highlights of the print edition as well as movies on our industry solutions and Express products and on our partnership with Aktion Deutschland Hilft.
