Lufthansa's cargo arm was on the lookout for talented graduates for its StartCargo trainee programme at konaktiva, the career fair held for the 28th time in Darmstadt

Five Lufthansa Cargo employees, approx. 350 students visiting the stand and six one-to-one meetings: Lufthansa Cargo was hosted at TU Darmstadt on 10 May for the konaktiva career fair. The three-day expo organised by students gives graduates an opportunity to meet face-to-face with a total of 261 companies. Besides Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Systems were also present. The HR department at Lufthansa's cargo arm used the expo to further publicise its StartCargo trainee programme (due to start in January 2017) and demonstrate its appeal as a way for graduates to begin their careers. Each year, the programme prepares two graduates with a logistics focus for a subsequent position in the core areas of Production, Sales or Product Management. Over the 18-month period, the trainees rotate through various departments, are deployed in the LCC and take part in five interesting projects throughout the company. Besides six one-to-one meetings arranged in advance, there was a good number of other visitors to the stand as well. "It was a really successful expo for us, with great colleagues and lots of good conversations. The interest in internships and degree theses in particular was very high and we were able to refer the students to a number of intern vacancies with our colleagues. We had to send some applicants to Lufthansa Technik or Lufthansa Systems, who were also at konaktiva, due to their specific majors", said Christian Mannheim, Hub Operations Improvement. However, it was unfortunate that no entry-level positions were on offer due to the current economic situation. Interest in such positions was also very high. "A final decision on filling the two open trainee positions will only be taken following the Assessment Centre at the end of August.
