Preparing for take-off
Lufthansa Cargo will handle the tonnage of new joint venture partner Cathay Pacific in Frankfurt from 2017 onwards. The airlines signed a Standard Ground Handling Agreement (SGHA) at the start of the month
Cathay Pacific operates a daily passenger service and five-times-weekly freighter service to Frankfurt. The SGHA covers a cargo volume in the high five-figure range per year, with the Lufthansa Cargo handling team assuming responsibility for all handling tasks. There are still some milestones to be reached in the project schedule before this takes effect in January. For example, the handling team for customer airlines will move to renovated offices and take over a larger, refurbished hangar area in building 451. The handling processes will also be discussed in workshops with Cathay Pacific, while employees will be trained up on the new assignment. “We can process our partner’s cargo data in iCAP as a priority and then transmit it via messaging to the Cathay system. This is much simpler than processing everything in parallel in two IT systems”, said a relieved Kerstin Mohrmann, project manager from the operation support team.
