20 shipments, seven days, four countries

Week 1 of Lufthansa Cargo’s joint venture with ANA ex EU saw the successful performance of the first shipments.

The big moment came on 3 August at 10 a.m. CET: Booking systems in Europe were activated for the second phase of the joint venture between Lufthansa Cargo and ANA Cargo. “This was soon followed by the first booking inquiries from European customers. Booked by Lufthansa on an ANA flight from Munich to Tokyo Narita, the first express shipment was transported on the very same evening”, reminisces Matthias Brazel, Programme Director Cooperations.

In the first few days the stations in Germany, Austria, the UK and France already processed a wide range of bookings and handled shipments: from an express package through an “ordinary” booking on the partner’s non-stop flight to a 14-tonne shipment of 30 parts requiring a feeder flight by Lufthansa in Europe and a defeeder flight by our partner in Japan.
“On balance, this week went successfully between the stations and our partner – from bookings through steering to handling”, recaps Julia Griese, Project Manager ANA Joint Venture. Conclusion: “There were a few disruptions but that’s normal for a project of this complexity. As we only work with semi-automated processes, a lot of coordination work is required between the partners. We will now look at each case and make adjustments where necessary.”
