On June 23th, Lufthansa Cargo provided members of the Working Group Transport, Building and Urban Development within the SPD’s Parliamentary Group in the Bundestag, with an insight into the world of airfreight at Frankfurt Airport.
In addition to discussions with Lufthansa Cargo Finance and Human Resources Director Peter Gerber, a guided tour of the Lufthansa Cargo Center, the heart of Lufthansa’s freight subsidiary, and of the Frankfurt Animal Lounge, the guests had the possibility to be present at the unloading and loading of an MD-11 airfreighter. On the apron, the group then had the opportunity to address their questions directly to the crew preparing themselves for departure.
During the programme of around five hours, the focus was primarily on themes related to the further development of the airfreight location of Frankfurt - among other things, the capacity extension or the topic of night flights in Frankfurt. Peter Gerber, Lufthansa Cargo Finance and Human Resources Director: "It was important for us to intensify the thinking of the SPD guests about the significance of airfreight for Germany’s exporting industry. In order to maintain and improve the leading position of the German logistics industry, we also need the understanding and the support of the federal politicians".
