Lufthansa Cargo Charter organises relief flights to Pakistan

Lufthansa Cargo Charter is flying 50 tonnes of medical supplies for the UN Population Fund from Frankfurt to Islamabad

Lufthansa Cargo Charter organised a relief flight to Islamabad for medical equipment provided by the Netherlands. The transport is being arranged in close collaboration with the airline’s parent company, Lufthansa Cargo. The 50 tonnes of emergency supplies have been transported aboard an MD-11 freighter chartered by Lufthansa Cargo. The flight departed from Frankfurt on Wednesday 25 August at 18.00 hrs local time. The recipient is the United Nations Population Fund.

Thanks to the close cooperation within the Lufthansa Cargo Group, it was possible to organise the flight very quickly. Lufthansa Cargo staff in Amsterdam received an enquiry from the consignor and immediately passed it on to their colleagues at Lufthansa Cargo Charter. The MD-11 freighter could be chartered at such short notice because Lufthansa Cargo Charter has access to aircraft operated by its parent company.

The freighter has carried also an additional load - a pallet of water purification tablets provided by HelpAlliance, a voluntary aid organisation set up in 1999 by staff from all areas of the Lufthansa Group. HelpAlliance supports and oversees various longterm projects worldwide and also gets involved in disaster relief. For more information, please visit www.help-alliance.com.
