Environmental guidelines

Preamble

The environmental guidelines, established at Lufthansa Cargo in 2007, are integral to our environmental management system: They constitute its normative framework and the motive force driving forward ongoing environment-relevant measures at the company. They encompass environmental values, strategic objectives and norms for company activities, to which Lufthansa Cargo AG is committed to adhere.

By utilising energy and raw materials in our business activities, we burden the environment with waste and emissions. In order to minimise those effects as much as possible, locally and globally, Lufthansa Cargo is firmly intent on complying with its environmental guidelines.

Herewith we comply with environmental regulations. But we want to do more and within the framework of our economic possibilities we use the best available technology.  
However, environmental protection is not just a management responsibility. To achieve our environmental objectives, each and all of us must play a part and contribute so that we progress, day-in day-out, wherever we happen to be, towards our aims. Only in that way can we can maintain our position among the world’s leading cargo carriers.

Exercising environmental responsibility
Our commitment to the environment is an expression of corporate responsibility. That is why environmental protection and the conscientious use of resources are among the foremost goals of our corporate policy. We aim to meet in equal measure the expectations of our employees, partners and customers in respect of safety, quality, economic efficiency and environmental compatibility.


Creating transparency
Our activities are based on the Lufthansa Group's Guidelines on Environmental Protection. We are committed to an open information policy on environmental issues and to a constructive dialogue with the authorities, customers and the public at large. Our environmental management system helps us identify, evaluate and lessen the effects of our activities on the environment.
 
Increasing environmental efficiency
We avoid, wherever possible, the harmful effects on the environment of noise, waste, and sewage. We keep those effects to a minimum if they cannot be avoided. Ongoing improvement in operational processes and procedures helps us to work more efficiently and conserve natural resources. Environmental care is nurtured especially by ideas and initiatives from the staff. So we further their personal commitment and support as mainstays in pursuance of our environmental objectives.

Achieving sustainability
Assessing the environmental impact of company activities is indispensable in our business decision-making processes. Wherever it is economically and socially justifiable, we harness the best available technology, utilise innovative processes and optimize our infrastructure to improve our environmental performance in the long term. Technology and research geared to that purpose enjoy our unstinting support.
