Saving kerosene has ever been an economic and ecologic imperative at Lufthansa Cargo.
This is also reflected in the investment in five new B777F – the freighter with currently the best environmental performance. Lufthansa connects people around the globe, and furthers the exchange of goods, ideas and cultures. But in order to transport people and essential goods, air traffic will depend, for some time yet, on kerosene as its principal energy source.
That combustion of fossil fuels increases carbon emissions in the atmosphere is incontrovertible. That is why saving the earth’s resources is a Lufthansa tradition.
Lufthansa Cargo transports goods on their own fleet of 18 MD-11 freighters. Furthermore the belly capacities of Lufthansa Airline Group aircrafts and the cargo capacity of the joint venture AeroLogic and Jade Cargo International are utilised.
Overall, Lufthansa Cargo has set a target to reduce its specific CO2 emissions in the air cargo transport by 2020 by 25 percent.
Last year, Lufthansa Cargo is one step closer to this goal: Through the continuation of environmental protection measures and the high load factor, the specific CO2 emissions could be reduced to 510 grams per ton-kilometers.
