Because we take into account the individual transportation needs of each animal species, we have developed different transport concepts.

Live ornamental fish
Our worldwide network provides the best conditions for transporting live ornamental fish. From most countries across the world, your shipment will reach all important European destinations, via Frankfurt, in less than 20 hours – the same of course in the opposite direction. Not just fast, but also straightforward, because we handle the entire transit on your behalf.

Because they should stay in their element, we take particular care when transporting fish to maintain a constant water temperature. Test examinations carried out by German veterinarians in Frankfurt take place under black light to avoid any shock reactions. Moreover, in the event of unforeseen delays, Frankfurt offers the possibility of an additional oxygen supply.

Horses
At Lufthansa Cargo, transporting horses is a tradition. For more than 30 years, we fly jumpers, dressage and race horses, and polo ponies to all important competitions around the world. With us, they receive the best all-around service. 42 large animal stalls are available at the Frankfurt Animal Lounge. The facility’s special non-slip asphalt floor provides warmth and the greatest possible comfort for the animals. Our trained staff care for the animals’ welfare, but we also thought about the animal attendants: a separate bathroom has been built especially for them.

Transportation takes place in special horse boxes. These have been developed in cooperation with breeders and veterinarians and ensure that the animal is transported safely and appropriately.

Hatching eggs and day-old chicks
Maintaining a constant temperature throughout the entire transport chain is top priority, especially when transporting hatching eggs and day-old chicks. On special request, they can be stored in 12 separate climatic chambers in Frankfurt, which can be individually temperature controlled. Transport to the aircraft takes place separately after loading in a weather-proof area; in Frankfurt, temperature-controlled vehicles are available for this. For shipping day-old chicks, specially developed chicken spacers are used. They ensure optimum air circulation between the individual transport containers. We are also happy to comply with the sender’s wishes in assembling the pallets.

Pets
Thanks to Lufthansa Cargo, no one is left behind when the whole family travels. With our extensive network, which also covers all important holiday regions, we can fly your pet safely to any destination worldwide. Pets can rest before and after their big journey in 39 small animal boxes at our Frankfurt facility. They are only brought to the aircraft shortly before take-off. Until then, our employees feed them and look after their individual welfare. Additional sight and sound screens in the facility prevents unnecessary stress to the animals.

If reserved in advance, plastic carrier boxes in four different sizes are available at our facilities. They guarantee sufficient ventilation and for each animal they are equipped with an internal floor lining with an absorbent bottom layer.

Zoo animals
From albatross to zebra – we are just the right partner when it comes to transporting more exotic animals, too: for example, when endangered animal species are transported between zoos as part of a conservation program. For hippos, tigers and co. we take care to avoid travel stress and minimise transfer times. For many years we have been working closely with zoo organisations around the world.
