Private customers - Lufthansa passengers
You are a Lufthansa passenger and want to airfreight excess and special baggage or animals?

If your baggage in respect of the number of pieces, their size or weight exceeds the free baggage allowance, Lufthansa must charge a fee for the excess baggage. You can see for yourself what that fee is and how it will affect your travel expenses by accessing the information available at the www.lufthansa.com website.

Lufthansa transports animals in the passenger cabin or cargo hold, depending on their weight and size. But remember: The animal protection regulations as well as the national import and export regulations of the respective country must be observed.

Timely reservation is necessary
If you want to take your pets along on your Lufthansa flight, please notify us in advance when you make your booking but no later than 24 hours before your flight departure date.

Transport of small dogs and cats in the passenger cabin
A dog or cat may be taken into the cabin, if the weight of the animal (including transport container) does not exceed eight kilos. More information at www.lufthansa.com.

Transport of larger animals in the cargo hold

• Accompanied animals transported in the cargo hold

Lufthansa flies animals, which cannot be transported in the cabin, in appropriate containers in an air-conditioned area of the cargo hold. You may use your own transport container for your animal if it complies with the relevant IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations. The container must in any case be large enough to ensure that the animal can stand up and has sufficient space to move about. Furthermore, containers should be equipped with a water bowl (empty). • Unaccompanied animals transported in the cargo hold

Animals may also be transported unaccompanied with Lufthansa Cargo. Animals may be checked in with baggage at the check-in counter.
