Frankfurt airport is the major hub of Lufthansa Cargo for airmail transportation. There, about 150 tons of airmail is handled daily to destinations worldwide.
Hardly any commodity in commercial air transport is more time sensitive than airmail. Due to international quality standards agreed upon between the national postal authorities there is a big demand for short flight connection times. This means a big challenge for the airline hubs in meeting the customer's expectations in terms of handling times.
With the airmail handling facilities at our Frankfurt hub Lufthansa Cargo is optimally positioned for this challenge. The Airmail Center Frankfurt GmbH with its state-of-the-art processing equipment meets highest quality requirements. Thereby Lufthansa Cargo is able to accomplish a transit time of 240 minutes.
Since January 2007 Lufthansa Cargo - in close collaboration with the Airmail Center Frankfurt GmbH - is also maintaining a smaller, but constantly growing hub at Munich airport.
Our airmail handling expertise is further enhanced through integrated IT solutions. In order to streamline handling, documentation and accounting we have developed MALTA, a data interchange system particularly designed for the airmail business.
Security in the airmail transport is likewise a high ranking matter for Lufthansa Cargo. We have a big stake in the Joint Airmail Security Group which is dedicated to the perpetual improvement and optimisation of airmail related security procedures.
