Lufthansa Cargo flies horses round the world

Last year, the Frankfurt Animal Lounge took care of around 2,000 horses as they passed through Frankfurt Airport to be transported by Lufthansa Cargo to destinations around the globe. One of the biggest markets for horse transports is South America, and especially Buenos Aires. Another major destination is Rio de Janeiro, a yearly venue for the Global Champions Tour featuring the world’s best show jumpers. In September 2010, Lufthansa Cargo laid on five extra scheduled freighter services through Rio de Janeiro to transport 73 European thoroughbreds to the annual show jumping event there.

Awaiting animals passing through Frankfurt Airport is a spacious Animal Lounge spread over an area of 4,000 square metres.
